Ontario Centres of Excellence Project Team:
Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) connects entrepreneurs, startups, industry, academia and investors to incubate and commercialize innovation, creating opportunities for Ontario inventors to compete globally. Years ago Banko Media worked with Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) as the agency of record for the creation of their annual reports and continues to work with them to create and provide photographic content.
Banko Media’s relationship has evolved with the arms length provincial body as OCE continued to grow, eventually assigning design functions to internal staff in the marketing and communications office. For almost five years the studio continued to provide editorial portrait photography, traveling across Ontario, capturing innovation from start-ups and universities alike. Our travels took us Ottawa, Kingston, London, Hamilton, Toronto, Barrie, Sudbury and points in between. In the innovation sector you don’t always know what your getting in to until you get there and so it is with photographing innovation as well. Some start ups were well funded with amazing and spacious facilities that belonged on the set of Star Trek, some housed a dozen employees in offices the size of sardine cans in the strangest locations. Our subjects ranged from microchips to software to hospital rooms and our challenge was to make each and every innovation look as exciting as the last one.
Over the last few years, Banko Media has been the event photography partner for Ontario Centres of Excellence, serviced almost entirely by Russell Druiven, our resident event photography expert. This relationship has meant working with OCE as well as numerous partners from the Ministry of Research and Innovation in venues large in small. Whether he’s shooting at MaRS, Toronto Congress Centre or the Toronto Convention Centre, Russ has represented Banko Media and the innovation sector very well. We look forward to continuing to work with Ontario Centres of Excellence again in the coming years ahead.
